Pangburn, Lonnie Alan

One of our founding members, Lonnie Pangburn, his beloved wife Lou Anne informed us, passed away recently. Lonnie, who was one of the original members of the first Board of Directors of the 28th Infantry Association along with COL Ed Burke, has passed away on 10 June 2013. Below is the Obituary that Lou sent us.

On the morning of Monday, June 10, 2013 Lonnie Alan Pangburn of Hardy, Virginia died at the age of 72 due to heart and internal organ failure. Lonnie was born in Chicago, IL on March 28, 1941. He served in the 1st Division, 28th Infantry of the US Army during Vietnam in 1965. He worked as a cartographer and intelligence officer within the government’s national defense agencies for over 33 years before he retired in 1996 to Smith Mountain Lake, VA. He is survived by wife, Lou Anne Pangburn; two sisters, Nedra Wegrzyn and Gale Kieper; eight children; one step-son; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Trinity Ecumenical Parish 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Gary Scheidt officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday at the home, 440 Sourwood Drive, Hardy, VA. 24101. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
