We were notified of the passing of a fellow Black Lion who served in Viet Nam Co A 1/28th Inf. Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire family of 1SG Navarro. James was a proud member of the 28th Infantry Association Black Lions. Below is the Obituary from the San Antonio Newspapers:
1st Sgt. James P. Navarro, USA (Ret.), age 64, passed away March 12, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Oakland, California on May 19, 1947, to James and Juanita Navarro. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football and basketball, with friends and neighbors. James was a loving husband, father and a proud veteran serving during the Vietnam and Desert Storm war during which he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal (Third Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal (Third Oak Leaf Cluster), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Driver Mechanic Badge, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 Bronze Service Star, Expert Badge with Rifle and Grenade Component Bars, Unit Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita and his first wife, Jadene, and his beloved dog, Cookie. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Sandoval Navarro; daughter, Carol Vincent and husband Joe of San Antonio; daughter, Jennifer Case and husband Jason of Colorado; grandchildren, Joe Vincent, Jr. and Chelsea, along with baby boy Case due the end of April; father, James Navarro of Oakland, CA; mother and father-in-law, Ventura and Macaria Sandoval of San Antonio; and his beloved dog, Lolita. James is also survived by several family members in the California Bay area. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
