We have been informed by James (Mule) Parker that his good friend Larry Peterson has passed away. Below is the official obituary:
LTC Larry Dean Peterson, USA (Ret) son of Norman and Maxine (Cahill) Peterson, was born on December 6, 1940 in Clarinda, Iowa and passed away on May 22, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was 76.
Larry graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1959, then went on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and earned a Master’s of Arts Degree in Historical Studies from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Larry proudly served in the Army for 27 years. He had two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and earned a Purple Heart in the process. Larry retired from the Army in 1989 as a Lieutenant Colonel. After the military Larry was an eighth grade history teacher at Culler Middle School for 14 years. Photographing Nebraska wildlife, flowers, and birds was a great passion of Larry’s. He also loved his weekly golf outings with buddies from high school. Most importantly, Larry was all about his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Larry is survived by his wife Sheila Peterson; sons Bret Peterson, Jeff Anderson, and Christopher (Kelly) Anderson; daughters Alyssa (Brett) Montgomery, Amy Peterson, and Gabrielle (Matthew) Robinson; grandkids Emelia Robinson, Austin Peterson, Avery Anderson, and Devin Montgomery; and sister Norma Peterson.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service for Larry will be held on Friday May 26, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home (4040 A St) with Pastor Kerry O’Bryant officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Memorials can be directed to the family for further designation.
